As part of the LAS protocol, I had to take History 110L WI The American Experience. I can honestly say this is one of the hardest classes I have taken. The content that we were learning was overall not difficult. However, the way that the Professor ran the class made it extremely difficult. Because this class is a Writing Intensive class, there is a good deal of writing involved. Over the course of the semester we wrote 6 two page response papers and a 10-12 page research paper.
Many of the response papers we wrote were based off of influential American leaders. These people include Martin Luther King Jr. George Washington, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. In these papers I discussed the positives and negatives of each leaders style of leadership or the traits that they posses that made them the leader they were. The lessons of leadership that I took away from this class was that there are many different styles of leadership. Every person, depending on the way they were brought up, their beliefs, their morals and their values is going to lead differently.
This class taught me the leadership styles of many of the United States’ influential leaders. After taking this class I will take what I have learned and apply it to every day life. I learned that if something doesn’t work out the first time, then I should learn from my mistakes and try a different plan. The president that put the country before their own reputation were the most successful. I will now keep in mind that putting my followers first is the most important thing when being a successful leader.
